Mr Universe Review & Preview

Mr. Universe One-Shot (Image Comics)
by Lory Gill

Writers: Vassilis Gogtzilas & K.I. Zachopoulos, Artist: Vassilis Gogtzilas

Those crazy Greeks know how to write a good comic. Mr. Universe is the creative and original story of a young boy, Tommy, who is obsessed with comics, one comic in particular, Mr. Universe. His love of the caped hero teeters on the line between nerdy and downright insane, sometime crossing that line. The appeal of this comic is its character development. There are plenty of introverted comic fans who fantasize about their heroes coming to life to put those bullies in their place. Well, Tommy speaks to those masses. The writing team of Vassilis Gogtzilas and K.I. Zachopoulos is both ingenious and inspirational. The two bring a style that can only be described as indie-action meets superhero. Gogtzilas’ art fits right into that niche as well. He brings a bit of realistic impressionism to an otherwise cartoon fantasy. It’s just too bad that this is a one-shot.

Mon Alix: New Book By K. I. Zachopoulos

Thessaloniki 2030. Many things were developed exactly as they were predicted, but even more appeared unchallenged, bringing the future opposite to any guesses of the past.

Three persons are involved in their own way in a story which starts about 30 years before and they whirl about the tornado of changes, of their personal choices and passions.

A young woman accidentally enters the life of a middle-aged man, bringing to his mind another woman from the past, which he loved, adored, and finally lost and never found again. In this way, a story begins, full of memories and quests, which lead the man sometimes to the past and sometimes to the near future.
